| The Pentax 8X36 size is ergonomically pleasant with a non slip
coating and thumb indentions positioned for proper holding. The diopter
adjustment is firm and held the chosen adjustment for the 11 field viewing trips
taken to date. Both my spouse and I wear glasses and the eye cup adjustment is
easy and also held well for all trips taken. I expected some performance
reduction from the Pentax 8X36 when compared to my 9 year old Kahles 10X42
binoculars. This was not the case for the Pentax 8X36’s – maybe it is newer
technology but these two binoculars are essentially equal with the Pentax 8X36’s
at ~1/4 the cost. Low light viewing is nearly equal for the two stated
binoculars when checked for both late evening and early morning viewing. The Pentax 8X36’s are lighter by 3 ounces which isn’t much but it counts. When viewing whitetail deer my spouse could easily see everything I could with my more expensive glasses. She also shared with me that she had not realized how much better these |

| would be than her older cheap 8X25’s. When asked if we could
share the 8X36’s she stated that I had my own pair and that I could use them. I
did not test water proof capabilities of either pair of binoculars – as I do not
plan to ever be in a position where they will be submerged for any length of
time. Differences I did detect between the two binoculars are the closest focus
point was 9 feet for the Pentax and 7.5 feet for the Kahles – this was right on.
The actual field of view for the Kahles was slight larger by ~10% as stated.
For general purpose viewing the Pentax 8X36 binocular is very crisp and clear in all the light conditions we tested – this included early morning and late evening low light, full sun and light to heavy overcast conditions. I can not detect any edge distortion in the 8X36 pair in the viewing I have done to date. We are extremely pleased with our choice to purchase the Pentax DCF NV 8X36 binoculars and are looking forward to our next time in the field. Regards, Mark E.
