Installing a new barrel is the most popular upgrade for your Ruger 10/22 carbine. And, it's easy to do! Your original 10/22 Rifle Manual tells how to remove the stock: Loosen the barrel band and slide it forward off the forend. Loosen the take-down screw on the bottom of the stock and lift the original barreled action out of the stock. Be careful not to misplace the take down screw as you'll need it when installing a new stock.

What You Should Know About Match 10/22 Barrels - The standard for match 10/22 barrels is a "heavy" contour... essentially no taper and .920" in diameter. This is important to note because these barrels will not fit in the barrel channel of the standard factory stock. You'll either have to open up the factory stock barrel channel with wood working tools OR, just buy an aftermarket 10/22 stock that is already designed to fit the .920" diameter Match 10/22 barrel.

Remove the Original Barrel - Using a 5/32 allen wrench, loosen and remove the two machine screws that tighten the V-block into the barrel at the front of the receiver. You should now be able to remove the original barrel from the receiver by twisting and pulling.

Install the New Match Barrel - Simply a reverse of the removal process... Slide the barrel into the receiver, line up and tighten the V-Block. And install the barreled receiver into the stock. The new barrel may be a tight fit... It's supposed to fit snug. If it's too hard to fit into the receiver, you may need to sand the stub just-a-little with 600 grit emory cloth... Don't take off too much.
