Short Action/Long Action - Traditionally you could tell a short action by the 2 digit model number (ie 10, 11, 12, etc). Long actions would have a 3 digit model number (ie. 110, 111, 112, etc.). Recently Savage has sent out short actions with 3 digit model numbers. So if you have a newer rifle, you may need to go by the cartridge: 223, 308, 243, 6.5 Creedmoor, etc are usually short actions. 30-06, 270 Win, 300 magnum, are usually long actions. Or finally, you can just go by the length of our scope mount. The Short Action Mount is 6" long. The Long Action Mount is 6-7/8" long. Measure the length of your receiver and order accordingly.
