What Is a TC Encore?

The Thompson/Center Encore is a versatile single-shot firearm platform known for its interchangeable barrel system and wide range of hunting and shooting configurations. The platform can be configured for different calibers and applications, allowing one Encore frame to serve as the foundation for multiple firearms. EABCO has specialized in Encore barrels, parts, accessories, and custom gunsmithing for more than 40 years.

What Are the Differences between Encore and ProHunter?

The Thompson/Center Encore was the original version, whereas the ProHunter is an upgraded version. The TC production today is only the ProHunter line. For many, the term Encore is interchangeable with ProHunter -- in most cases that is true. Some differences between the original Encore and the upgraded ProHunter are:

  • The Swing Hammer - The ProHunter has a patented Swing Hammer that can rotate to the left/right for easier access with a scope. The traditional Encore has a fixed hammer.
  • Flextech Stocks- The ProHunter has a patented Flextech Stock and Forend technology with Limbsaver recoil pad and rubber grips. The traditional Encore has a standard composite or wood stock/forend set.
  • Barrel Contours - The ProHunter barrels are typically 26" or 28" in a Heavy contour that is .810" diameter at the muzzle and stainless fluted. The traditional Encore barrels were made in a factory .750" tapered contour that was typically blued steel. There are many exceptions. The new production TC ProHunter brand barrels (2025 or later) are all considered ProHunter barrels and come in the heavy contour either 26" or 20" in length.
  • Interchangeability - The frames, stocks and barrels for TC Encore and TC Encore ProHunter are interchangeable. The main thing to watch is that the forend needs to match your barrel. If you have a standard tapered Encore rifle barrel or a heavy ProHunter rifle barrel, or muzzleloader barrel, or shotgun barrel -- you have to match the barrel.

Can I change barrels on a TC Encore?

The Encore platform is designed around interchangeable barrels! The same Encore frame/action will work with a rifle barrel, muzzleloader barrel, shotgun barrel, etc. Important: You just need to match the forend to your barrel type and contour. Always verify the specifications for the particular configuration before making a purchase.

Why buy a complete TC Encore rifle?

A complete rifle provides a ready-to-use configuration while retaining the versatility associated with the Encore platform. It can also provide a foundation for future customization with compatible components.

Do I need to buy a complete TC Encore rifle, or can I start with just the Frame Assembly?

You can easily build your own custom rifle by purchasing a separate barrel (rifle, muzzleloader, shotgun, etc) and a frame assembly, which includes the buttstock and forend. Or, take it a step further and select your own buttstock and forend, in which you would purchase the frame/action alone.
