Dave Zimmerman with
his Savage Rifle and .243 Accuracy Barrel
Dear Browns,
I was right, my .243 Savage "accuracy barrel" does shoot as good as it
looks but that thing sure is finicky about being clean. I feel like I was
lax in my cleaning process with my first 20 reloads but I learned my
lesson, now I am 14 rounds into my second 20 reloads and the barrel
really came to life, amazing what some decent cleaning will do!
I am attaching a photo of just one of many excellent groups fired today,
.335 is a mighty small 3 shot 100 yd. group especially in a 15 mph. cross
wind!
To compliment a new barrel I started off with a box of new Federal brass
trimmed to factory specs. and chamfered in and out, the primer pocket
reamed flat and loaded with a CCI BR-2 primer, for powder I chose 40.5 grs.
of IMR 4350, my choice of bullets was Sierra 100 gr. spitzer flat base
seated to where the bolt had just a very slight interference when closing.
That was all I could do on my part an excellent barrel did the rest, and
WOW did it ever. Enjoy the picture and good luck in your new building.
Thanks again, Dave Zimmerman |
