Description
TC Encore/Contender Barrel Locking Bolt Spring
- This is the coil spring that powers the Locking Bolts in the barrel underlug of Thompson Center Encore Pro Hunter and Contender. The locking bolts are compressed against this spring when you squeeze the trigger guard to open the action. This spring extends the locking bolts under an internal ledge to lock the barrel in battery when you close the action.
- Replacement Requires Gunsmith Tools and Skills - The locking bolts must be compressed and held under compression while the retainer roll pin is tapped out with a pin punch. Then the locking bolts can be slowly uncompressed until both the bolts and the spring can be withdrawn from the underlug. Here's how we do it at the EABCO Shop. First install a set of soft jaws on your bench vise. Then position the underlug of your barrel so that the locking bolts can be compressed front to back between the vise jaws. Compress the vise all the way until it is holding the underlug solidly front to back. This frees your hands to tap out the retainer roll pin with a pin punch and tap hammer. Now, grasp the barrel with one hand and slowly back off the vise with the other until you can lift the barrel away from the vise and pull out the locking bolts and original locking bolt spring. To install the new locking bolt spring, just reverse the process.
